How to Do the ACIM Daily Lessons

The Structure

The Workbook for Students contains 365 lessons — one for each day of the year. It's divided into two parts:

Part I (Lessons 1–220) focuses on undoing your current way of seeing the world. These lessons systematically question your assumptions about what things mean, what you see, and what you think you know.

Part II (Lessons 221–365) focuses on the positive — what is true, what God is, and what you are. By this point, the earlier lessons have created space for a different experience.

Interspersed throughout are Review periods, where you revisit earlier ideas to deepen your understanding.

How to Practice

Each lesson gives specific practice instructions. Some ask you to:

  • Repeat an idea to yourself several times throughout the day
  • Apply the idea to specific things you see or situations you encounter
  • Spend quiet time with eyes closed, holding the idea in mind
  • Practice during specific moments — upon waking, before sleep, or at set intervals

Follow the instructions as given. Don't add to them, modify them, or substitute something you think is better. The workbook is a precisely designed curriculum.

Common Questions

What if I miss a day? Continue with the next lesson. Don't go back.

What if I don't understand the lesson? You don't need to understand it. Just practice it.

What if I feel resistance? That's normal and expected. The ego resists anything that threatens its thought system. Practice anyway.

How long should I practice? Follow the lesson's instructions. Early lessons ask for very little time — sometimes only a minute twice a day. Later lessons ask for more.

Should I read the Text too? It helps, but it's not required. The Workbook can stand alone.

Tips for Staying Consistent

  • Same time each day. Morning is ideal — it sets the tone for your day.
  • Set reminders. Use your phone or our daily newsletter to stay on track.
  • Keep it simple. Don't overcomplicate the practice. Just do what the lesson says.
  • Don't judge your progress. The Course is not about doing it perfectly.
  • Find community. A study group can provide support and accountability.
